APDIM contributed to the Second Expert Forum for Producers and Users of Disaster-related Statistics from 6 to 8 September 2022 at ESCWA, Beirut. About 400 participants from 114 countries attended virtually or in person. In the Forum, experts from various UN organizations and institutions, including APDIM, ESCAP, ESCWA, UNDRR, UNSD, LAS, ECE, ECLAC, etc.discussed and shared their experiences on topics, including Advancing Official Statistics for Disaster Risk Reduction, Geospatial Information, and Big Data, Lessons Learned on Using Data to Save Lives During Pandemics, Integrating climate and disaster risk data to build resilience, Downscaling data at the local level for Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience Strategies, Arab Region and Data Gaps in Disaster-Conflict Nexus, and Way forward for Informing disaster-risk reduction policy with official statistics.

In the session, Amin Shamseddini, Programme Officer, APDIM, shared APDIM’s experiences of using socio-economic data from open-source databases to assess the risk of disasters and discussed the innovative methodology of using these data on sand and dust storms risk assessment.
